EC and Babywearing…

This summer a friend passed along my name to a new and amazing Montreal buisness called Melons & Clementines for the potential of giving babywearing classes. This little shop in the NDG district of Montreal is all about breastfeeding. Clothes, accessories, pumps, babywearing shirts and carriers. Not only that, but while you shop, you can sit down and have tea and a lunch while the kids play in the kids corner, all in a very breastfeeding friendly environment. They also have a private room and a schedule for lacation consultants for moms that might need help.

I talked over the phone with two wonderful women that started this little shop, Renee and Marie-Maude, and I went to meet them soon after to talk about what they needed and soon after we set the date for the first workshop. Not only am I giving a babywearing workshop but also an EC one, and not only is it great to meet new people and talk and share about two subjects that I love, I am also making a small amount of money (at least to cover my transporation… lol)

If you are in Montreal, do go and have tea and hang out, you won’t regret it… and if you are looking to learn more about EC and/or babywearing, come to one of my workshops… the next one will be this saturday, with EC in the morning at 11am and babywearing at 1:30pm… (the schedule on their site will have the next workshops when we set the dates)

both can fit a bit larger and smaller because of the shirring and the adjustable straps…

I finished another dress yesterday… and I am going to start working on a few skirts for adults to sell…

There is so much pressure in making clothes for others, but I love sewing and people seem to like the clothes that I make…

I don’t know if this little business will become something but it is something that I enjoy doing… I am getting my site ready and will put a few things up in the next few weeks…. and then I will be putting things up as I make them…. no customs and no pressure for me…
The clothes that I make are all pattern free… like with recipes I don’t like the constraints of a pattern..

I am still busy working on my site and trying my best to get it up completely… I really have to work hard especially to get the french site up… Right now I have finshed all my product pages but I am missing the text and info pages… This is one reason that I might be here a bit less for a few days…
Yesterday a nurse from the CLSC came here and choose a Sling and learn how to use it. I wasn’t sure if it was for her daughter who is pregnant or for something else, but she explained that since I gave the presentation to the nurses they have been talking about Babywearing at all of the pre-natal classes and they have been giving my name and number out. However, because they had nothing to show the moms didn’t know what it really was and most just thought it was a snugli type carrier so the nurses asked for the budget to buy a sling….

Now, at Pre-natal classes they are going to be showing the Sling and a bit of how to use it and giving my info along with it… This, is going to be great! The new babies are going to have a chance to be held more and maybe more people will be more in tune with their kids, I am also going to be selling more slings and maybe other products… This is another reason that I want to get the french site up and running as soon as possible… the area here is solely french and the site will give the new mom an oppurtunity to see and chose on line and even pay by credit card….
