32+ weeks…

My photos from Khéna’s birthday today are uploading and I am heading to bed, so to get my post in for today (only 2 days lefts after this for NaBloPoMo) I will share some pics that Simon took of me today…

It is rare that he picks up the camera without me asking so I was happy to oblige…

Me… before I was born…

My computer told me this morning that I am 32 weeks…

Not much has changed since last week for me,  but I thought I would share these few pics…

These are me , in my mom.

My mom has always told me that these are X-rays. While I was scanning them and really looking at them I was wondering if they really are. You can’t see much dense tissue like bone, but then when looking at the last two and looking at my head/skull you can see where the teeth would be etc…  any insight would be great!

The first here is at 7 1/2 months pregnant. You can’t see much on it except that I was head down.

7 1/2 months of pregnancy

The other two are a lot more telling. these were taken 4 1/2 hourse before I was born.

My mom had a long labour and I was posterior, as you can see on this first one, my head is down and looking towards my mom’s front. You can see the curve of my back along towards her back and my knees giving her that bulge on the top of her uterus.

4 1/2 hours before I was born

They tried to turn me and you can see in this second one that I have turned a bit and I am slightly lower. If you can’t make it out much, look at the bottom and you can see the roundness of my head facing the camera.

I find these pics amazing (not only that it is me) especially when I am feeling my own little baby inside and I can visualize what I am feeling…

Simply Give Birth….

simplygivebirthfronttextsmall

For too long, the drama, and pain and horrifyingly out-of -control helplessness, has been the predominant tale of childbirth.

It’s time for that story to go the way of dinosaurs.

There’s a new way to tell our birth stories, a simple way, with humor and spirit and matter-of-fact exuberance.

Simply Give Birth is a collection of 30 such stories that will have you laugh and cry and just might inspire you!

This is the summary of Heather Cushman-Dowdee’s (otherwise known as Hathor the Cowgoddess) newest book…

I finally received my copy yesterday and I have to say that it is pretty exciting… Not only is this book an amazing collection of birth stories, many of which are UC’s, but the story of Khéna’s birth was included in it also… 🙂

I haven’t read all the stories yet, but I am making my way through it and they are all amazing, and as the title says, they are all simple birth stories in their purest form, births that are just part of everyday life, stories with little intervention and with the women themselves in charge, which is so refreshing and inspirational.

If you want your very own copy, get it here! You won’t be disappointed!

Smile…

There are times that one of the greatest tools of parenting is a simple smile.

a smile to show that you are there, that you are all ears … A smile that welcomes.

one that shows that you are paying attention…

that shows that you are there and that though a situation may be tense, you accept that their feelings are real.

that shows that you are ready to listen without judgment.

that shows that you respect them and are interested in what they are doing.

There are times that moods can be tense and anger is building and words can only make things escalate but that small smile diffuses the situation, lets tears come though and brings a child to your arms and makes their feelings finally come through…

It is such a small gesture that can say so much…
