La Cabane à Sucre…

Here are a few pics from “La Cabane à Sucre” or “Sugar Shack” where we went last Thursday… This is one tradition that I want my Family to know. It is something that I loved doing as a child…

For those who don’t know what it is… Quebec is the largest producer of Maple Syrup in the world so when the Nectar Flows the Sugar shack go to work…. collecting the Maple water a few times a day and the boiling it down to the Maple Syrup we know…

With the syrup comes the food… A whole array of traditional french-canadian cuisine… Def not healthy or vegetarian and not something that I could eat everyday or more than once a year…

Cretons on toast,Split Pea soup, Maple omelette, Breakfast Sausages, Apple Maple Ham. Maple Baked Beans, Pork rinds, Beignets, homemade dougnuts, Maple cake, Maple sugar Pie etc…

Followed by “tire sur Neige”
Hot maple syrup poured onto snow making a Maple taffy…

Now “Sugaring off” also includes small petting zoo’s at many places, horse drawn sled or buggy rides etc…
Anyway… here are some pics….

Just a little update…

Khéna is just about 3 1/2 months old and is about 22-23 pounds now and wearing a size 18 months in mostly everything though we can’t put him in pants because of the length… (he either wears a onsie or just a shirt most of the time with babylegs for easy pottying) Footed PJ’s don”t fit at all because of the length but 2 piece PJ’s fit so he wears those when we are out…

I am not really sure if he can roll over or not because I don’t put him down much, besides when he is sleeping at night he is in our arms.. I sometimes put him in his highchair while we eat though and recently I have put him down on the floor and he is starting to enjoy that a bit… but not for long…

he has never really been on his tummy but I don’t agree that is important anyways because of the baby wearing…

EC is doing great though he still won’t potty when we go out and he holds it in all day which must be very uncomfortable.. we are trying to get him used to going in other places besides on the BBLP in front of the Mirror.. so that maybe pottying elsewhere will be easier…

Khéna loves baths and showers but hasn’t taken that many yet to be honest… but really he isn’t too dirty anyways..

Yesterday however, Simon gave him is first bath alone in the tub (usually I take it with him) and he had a blast splashing and moving…He really loves the water… so I think he is going tp be having them more often…

He still nurses about every 1 hour in the daytime, and though it is a lot he sleeps about 8-10 hours at night… so it equals out… he can and does nurse less when we are out so I really have to make the time to stop and nurse him those days…

Khéna is also cooing and “talking” so much now… he laughs and giggles and smiles at his brothers… He is tickish and just overall really happy…

Here are some new pics!

doc appt’s and bummis….

Yesterday we went to a Well baby visit for all three boys…. the boys hadn’t been in a year and a half so I though that I should bring them in as we were going for Khéna anyways…

First I stopped off to see my grandma and got a few pics with her and the boys.. well…. Colin didn’t want to so he’s not in them…

Isn’t she beautiful! She is 83 BTW 🙂

We the headed to the doc… I don’t do well baby visits often since I don’t really see the point in them since the schedule is really only for vaccines and of course I am completely against routine vaxes, especially for young children whose immune systems do not stand a chance … but I want to make sure to keep our family doc and keep a good relationship with him since he is a great doc and Quebec has a shortage… the exams were brief as they always are, and he is great with kids… talking to them, playing with them, engaging them in conversation… and he said to come back next year with Xavier and Colin…

Khéna’s appt was pretty brief also… He had nothing to say about him being born at home unassisted, though he would have liked a “at birth” weight. He asked his permission to touch him and talked to him during the exam. Khéna was calm through it all… he asked about vit D and Vax and I told him that we won’t be doing them… he asked why… I told him… he said that he doesn’t agree but that it is my choice and left it at that… he doesn’t give vaxes in his office anyways so really it wasn’t a problem… right before he went to weigh him he mentioned the birth weight again saying that it is useful to know if he is gaining… I kind of smirked and said that I am pretty sure that there was no problem….

We got the scale and he understood what I meant… but… he wasn’t the 16 pounds that we thought (Simon weighed him on the bathroom scale on wednesday)… So yesterday, At 7 weeks 3 days, he weighed in at 17 lbs 4 oz…!!!!!! meaning that he has been gaining more than a pound a week! I couldn’t believe it… but then I can… he is heavy and rolly and oh so squishy!!!

After seeing the doc I went to one of my favourite stores….Bummis!!!

They have bins under the counters with things half price so I had fun picking out some new covers… for cheap!!
