Khéna is crawling!

The other boys were quick to crawl and to walk… crawling before 6 months and taking steps by 9 months…

Because of his size I knew that Khéna would be a bit later… I really enjoyed the time that I could just sit him down and know that he would stay at the same place… he has been able to go from tummy to sitting for about 2 weeks now and when he started to do that he would get around that way… laying on his tummy and then sitting up a bit further… then he started doing a crawl with one leg straight and on one knee… and then a few days ago he started the “traditional” crawl…

He can also pull him self up easily now and loves to stand in the bath and around the couch…

It is amazing to see him grow and change…

change of plans…

We ended up not going to the cabin this weekend…

After the plumber left on Wednesday I noticed that the floor at the bottom of the stairs had been affected by the water quite a bit. The way that the rooms are placed means that if there was water there… the was water under the flooring of the computer room. However, since the floor is raised, then we couldn’t actually check. So we called our insurance and check what could be done on Thursday. The claim was filed and the claims officer called me about an hour later and then made an appt to come by on Friday morning. He arrived at about 10am and checked the damages and said that the flooring at the bottom of the stairs needs to be replaced and then when I voiced my concern about the humdity in the walls he said that he would have someone check on that too…

So a few hours later a guy calls me to come check the humidity in the walls, he said that he could come by that evening after supper (who drives an hour away to check the humidity in the wall on a friday night!?) anyway, he came by and found a lot more than I would have liked and said that his crew would be by the next day… at about 1pm they got here and did their work… making a hole in the computer room closet and in a few walls with big fans hooked up and a humidifier to catch the moisture in the air…  (I am getting really annoyed at the noise of the fans by now…)

Anyway… after 3 hours of work they left and will be by on Tuesday to get the equipment… and then of course it will be up to the next guy hired to fix the mess they made and the flooring etc…

So, with that happening on Saturday we decided to stay home with the boys and to make it up to Xavier I made cheeseburgers on the BBQ in the rain and went to the “Cantine” and got some fries… then the optometrist called on Sat also saying that the pieces for my glasses were in so we decided to go to the “big mall” on make a day of it on Sunday… we walked and shopped and looked for something for Xavier to buy with the 5$ my mom gave him in a birthday card…

So, my glasses are fixed, I saw a friend that I lost touch with a long time ago and was wanting to get back in touch with…  the boys were GREAT at the mall making it a really fun day and on the way home we decided to go the restaurant for an early birthday supper… So we went to the La Cage aux Sports and the boys again were great and Xavier got a brownie with a candle and a song and he looked so proud!!

So today is his birthday and we are having fun… This morning he helped me bake his carrot cake and we gave him the marble run and it is a hit!  Other presents will come out later, maybe a swim in the pool and tonight we are making homemade pizza DIY style and then eating carrot cake…

I can’t believe that 5 years ago today I was in labour for the first time… fighting the doctors and refusing a “necessary” C/S and in a few hours I was about to become a mom for the very first time, nurse for the first time and I was about to change my way of life completely…

He is going to be 5!!

Xavier’s Birthday is on monday… I can’t believe that he is going to be 5…

He had another growth spurt not too long ago and the size 4 pants that he has been wearing for a year are all at his ankles and now they are fitting Colin…

Not only has he had a physical growth spurt but he also has changed so much in his behaviour… he has more impulse control, he talks his way out of situations more… telling Colin that hands are not for hitting for example and diffusing the situation with words instead of making thing worse by hitting back. His language skills have also increased immensely and when he watches TV he rather watch shows on Discovery Kids or the Discovery channel than Treehouse.

When we asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday he said he wanted to go to the Cabin and celebrate there… with no family but maybe just two of our adult friends… He wants me to bake a Carrot Cake with Cream cheese Icing and to hear the frogs while he sleeps… A friend of mine Amy gave us some Tonka trucks from her husbands childhood and we will bring a few of those to the Cabin also… they are perfect and will be well loved and played with…

I am really happy with the gifts that we finally chose also…

This is the best!! Quadrilla Twist Set Wooden Marble Run

and kit to grow a venus fly trap, the Pirateology book and a little robot

I can’t believe it…. 5!

the weekend…

Well, we decided to go away for the weekend… Simon is going back to work on tuesday and though time passes more quickly when we are at the cabin, the kids are easier when we out of the house…

So we left at about 10:40 and got the ferry at 11… got to the other side of the River and went to eat lunch… just as we were about to head back on the road I realized that we forgot the keys to the Cabin…. I looked at the time and thought that we might be  ble to get the ferry that was 25 min later…so I stepped on the gas…

well… that was not a good idea…

see….we were in the parking lot and though the road was ahead of me… there was also a concrete slab… our tires went right over and I was kind of stuck. And there was weird “grinding” noises coming out from under the car….

I went in reverse but wasn’t going anywhere… I asked Simon to get out of the car and push and went in reverse again… and the car finally moved under the watchful eye of a few onlookers… the minivan thankfully looks OK…

So we headed back towards the ferry again and got there just in time for them to close the gate right in front of us…. so we had to wait for the next one….. I called the friend that was supposed to meet us at the Cabin later today…

(sidenote… did you know that a minute of long distance with a pay phone costs 3.65?! and they interrupt you to ask you to put in more money so you actually get less!!! oh and Bell Canada payphones are now 0.50 instead of a quarter!!!))

It was a bit funny that the guy that was at the toll this morning recognized me when I bought the ticket for the third ferry ride of the day… I bought another series of 10 tickets…lol

Got to the cabin and settled in… since my mom hadn’t been there this year we needed to open the cabin and clean up a bit… bring the carpets out, sweep the floors, mow the grass that was waist high at a few places… Our friend found the place despite of the hard directions and we went and got some supper… we started a fire ate Pizza from the Village and then I put Khéna to sleep and the boys kept playing…

At 10pm there were fireworks in the Village because of the Holiday (St-Jean-Baptiste Day) and Simon and the boys could see them from the top of the hill but Colin got a bit scared of the forest in the dark… so they came back down quickly after… I stayed at the Cabin so that I was near Khéna if he would have woken… soon after, both boys were asleep…

We stayed around the fire a bit and then headed in also…

The next morning the boys played around a bit and at one point found their way into the Minivan… Xavier closed the door and Colin locked the door by accident and couldn’t get out… we were at the window telling him to press the button up but he just couldn’t get the concept… the keys of course were in the middle console… we got Colin to find the keys and put them in the ignition and turn the key… he got the power started in the car and we told him to push the window button to make the window go down and quickly got him out… we then went to a friends house and played in the waterfalls a bit and then headed back home…

What a weekend…
