Happy half-birthday Colin!!

Colin is 18 months old today…. He is growing so much, changing so much, becoming such a little boy…

He nows says…

Mama, Papa/dada/daddy, Xavier, Colin, Thank you, up, cat, tea, pipi, caca, baby, bath, Dora, Cheese, jus (for drink or have condiments) Apple, timber, Hi, doggy, Ow, bobo, un (one), deux (two)

He does the following sounds:

Train, meow, pants like a dog, neighs, moos, chicken, fish, monkey, duck (plus a few more)

And the following signs:

Maju, more, all done, butterfly, book, bird, monkey, pig, drink, eat, plane, hello/bye, Sun, diaper (plus a few more)

He is such a joy to have around, he is such a loving and cuddly little boy. He is charming and wants to make us laugh all of the time. He is gentle and silly, outgoing and happy, smiley and just plain cute….(of course… he looks like me 😉 )

Here is a year and a half in pics… (not all of course 😉 )

Colin (First 18 months)

Before Colin was born I remember being scared of not being able to love a child as much as I loved Xavier. Now I have trouble grasping that feeling… the instant he was born, I was in love, I was in as much love as I was with Xavier. I remember feeling that the only difference was that I just didn’t know as well…

Colin makes us laugh every day, it is not only because he is cute and does funny things… he goes out of his way to put a smile on our face… He knows that he can make us laugh…

Colin loves everything and everyone…. he loves to cuddle with Daddy and it doesn’t take long for him to warm up to someone… If you were to come to our home, he would greet you with a smile and say Hi, play at your feet and within a few minutes he would bring you a book expecting you to read to him… He is very attached to mama but doesn’t mind if I leave him with Daddy… He falls asleep on Daddy about half of the time also…

Colin is still not sleeping through the night… well… not “technically”…. he starts off the night in his bed and comes into our bed oon after we have went to bed… he will nurse a bit and then sleep cuddled next to me until morning… I have a feeling that he may nurse at one point during the night but I am not completely sure anymore…. if he does, it doesn’t wake me…

Colin is very sensitive and can get a bit jealous… He doesn’t like to see his brother cry and sometimes looks a bit sad and confused when Xavier is upset… He also is jealous to see his brother nurse… if Xavier nurses Colin will push him out of the way…. He also has one of the most high pitched screams that I have ever heard… I few times strangers have heard him scream and are surprised that he is a little boy….

All in all… Colin is a Joy to be with, he is such a special little boy….

I look forward to seeing him grow…

And he sings…

Last Sunday morning we all woke up to a bright morning…. and to our surprise, Xavier sang “Twinkle, twinkle little star”… It was out of the blue, no one had really even talked yet, it was just such a beautiful surprise…. Simon and I didn’t say a word but just looked at each other while he sang each word and didn’t even make a mistake. I didn’t even know that he knew the words…

At 3 1/2 this was the first time that Xavier sang a song… he has been “dah.. dahing” the Star Wars theme song for a while (though he has never seen the movie) and recently started filling in the blanks when I sang a song and would stop mid sentence but has never really sang…. I have amazing feelings that go through me when I hear him sing now, he has done twinkle little star a few more times and today he sang the alphabet song for the first time too (he even got most of the letters right!!)

I am starting to see a shift in him… he is growing up… today we watched a mini documentary on dinosaurs on the computer and had a great conversation about carnivors…. he is also starting to show a big interest in letters and numbers….
He also loves playing games on the computer and can get around a site very well… His favorite games right now are the ones that are on the Nick Junior site… especially the Max and Ruby dress up game….

We are trying to watch less TV and I have been doing very well actually the last few days… Since I like having a background sound I put the TV to the Montreal Talk radio station that I listen to (and I can’t get on the Radio) and that way the TV has a black screen so if the kids turn it on or off it doesn’t really matter… if the TV is just off though and at any channel they will turn it on and watch whatever is on…

However, Xavier does have a few “favorite” shows that I really don’t mind him watching…. Max and Ruby is his favorite, Little Bear is another… They are two shows that I just can’t see anything wrong with….

Oh…. another first.. a little weird and disturbing though….
Yesterday… Xavier told me his first story…I did a kind of “fill in the blank” story… it went a bit like this…

Me: Once there was a little boy named…
X: Xavier

Me : And one day Xavier….

X: Went walk in the woods….

Me: and then what happened?

X:  He met a witch!
Me:and then what happened?

X: He asked the witch to turn him into a truck!
Me: A truck! huh… and did she?
X: Yeah…

Me: and what he do when he was a truck?

X: He went up, up, up the hill into the clouds?

Me: Then what happened?

X: He saw his mom!

Me: and what did his mom do?

X: She brought him home…

Me: and did she know that he was the truck?

X: Yeah…

Me: Then what happened?

X: She put him in the toilet and flushed….

Me: Why did she do that?

X: Because he’s dead…

Me: Really, maybe she brought him back to the witch to turn him back into a boy?

X: No… he’s Dead…

Well…. Yeah…. didn’t even know how to respond to the that one….

ugh…. it’s Yucky outside…..

Yesterday we got a bit of snow and today we have freezing rain… it is supposed to get colder outside so that means that the sheet of ice that has covered everything is going to just get harder and more slippery…. Many schools are closed and I decided that I am not driving today….

I wanted to go to the health food store to get some vitamin B6 and some loose red raspberry leaf for tea…. but I guess it will have to wait… and that also means that Xavier is not going to Daycare today…

He only has three days left (including today)….

On tuesday, hile picking him up I had a small conversation with a few of the daycare providers….

They seemed a bit weirded out by the thought that I was leaving the decision to go or not up to a 3.5 year old… but I told them that it is his life and we have to respect what he wants…

Though it will be an adjustment for all of us… Xavier no longer going, Me having less one on one time with Colin, Colin having less time to play by himself… I am happy that Xavier will be at home with me…

I will be happy that I won’t have to wake him up mornings that he would rather sleep, I am happy that there will no longer be a struggle to get him dressed and make sure that he eats before having to leave….

Anyways… today is just a yucky day….
