Years ago I worked as a portrait photographer while I went through university. It wasn’t the most glamorous place to work but it was something that was fun to do and the experience I got is still something that still helps me today when I take pictures of my own kids. Making sure of course, to ignore the really cheesy poses that I was made to do…
I have offered pictures to friends when they were pregnant…
A few times now I have been asked to go to events and take pictures and it has always been my pleasure…
(Breastfeeding Challenge at Melons et Clémentines 2011)
But I still don’t consider myself a professionnel, maybe because I have too much fun… maybe because I wasn’t getting paid…
But a few months ago I was asked by a friend (and founder) to take some “no-school” pictures at Communidée, the home-learner centre in Montreal. I couldn’t say no!
So last week, Simon took the day off owrk to stay with the kids and I went to the centre to take portraits… and guess what… I got paid! It felt good… natural light, using a blackboard as the background and just having fun while I took pictures… and I might have even gotten my next gig!
This is getting exciting!
i’ve always loved your photos! it’s such a good idea of sonia (i guess it’s her) to do a no school photo shoot! i’m sure the kids and granparents (who will get a photo for xmas) loved it!
Ditto what Joanna said – your photos are always so nice & I loved the ones from the breastfeeding challenge. It’s great that you’ll get paid to do something you love 🙂
What a gift it was to have those portraits taken! thank you 🙂
