I tried out the birth pool last night… the motor was so loud to blow it up but it didn’t wake up the kids at all… Simon’s ears were ringing though!
It took about 25 min to fill up the pool and one hot water tank full (we can’t figure out how to put the temp higher on the tank) anyway… it was pretty much the perfect temp with what we had… I got in and vegged out for a while before I decided that it would be better just a bit warmer… Simon heated up some water on the stove and that made all the difference… I stayed in for about another 30 min after that and the water stayed at the exact same temp so I know that it keep the temp well…
The test run also brought a test run of uncomfortable contrax… I had checked myself a few days ago and was still closed, not really effaced but soft…. My cervix was also still quite posterior… this morning I decided to check again and I was so surprised that after the few hours of contrax last night I am now dialated a bit, mushy and much more effaced and my cervix is much easier to reach…
Though I know that it doesn’t mean anything what it means for me is that things are different this time around…. I never dialated before labour… the boys were posterior and just didn’t put any pressure on my cervix… so what it tells me is that things have a good chance of being different this time… I may have th chance of getting a shorter and better birth experience… not having back labour and labour not stalling at 3-4 cm after spending hours to get there…
We decided that it will be better to keep the pool inflated until the birth… It will be placed in the living room when the time comes so for now it is propped up against the patio door in the kitchen…
I am very happy with my pool choice… is is SO comfy, I love the height, I love how sturdy it is and I love the shape (oval) which makes it so that I can have my legs extended or turn sideways and be able to push against the side… the inside handles make it easy to change position and it just feels like a little cocoon but not suffocating at all…. I feel comfortable and safe in there…
Oh… and while I was in there I decided to make it an ultimate test time and eat the rest of the Haagen Daaz Baileys Ice Cream that I bought a few days ago… yummm……
Oooohhh…me too, me too. I have and love the La Bassine and can’t wait to use mine. Unfortunately I can’t leave mine inflated and ready because of my toddler and cats but I loved the test run we did and it took us about 15 minutes to inflate and another 20 or so to fill it, and we’re also using the hot pots of water on the stove method for refills. =)
I am so glad that the Cat doesn’t have much interest in the pool… he was actually got a bit scared when he saw a pool full of water in the living room… lol…
The boys have been surprisingly good too… they check it out but won’t really touch… Not at all like the boys that I know…
The hot water on the stove works great… I watched the temp on the thermometer when one pot was added and it added a whole degree Celcius to the water and made all of the difference without adding much water at all to the pool…I can’t wait to use it again…
Our cats go crazy for water and our toddler LOVES baths and splashing…actually I’m really hoping we go into labor and have the baby while he’s sleeping because it will be a huge battle to keep him out of the pool with me.
LOL… I think that the boys just don’t know that it is a pool that can be inside the house… they know it is a birthing pool but I don’t think that they put it together yet…
I am really nervous about the boys wanting to be in the pool with me too… I am also hoping that I go into labour while they are sleeping… It think it would make things so much easier.
Same here. I’m torn because I want Gage to be there for the birth but at the same time, he’s 18 months old, I’ve been unsuccessful at trying to teach him about “the baby” and I know all he’ll see is a pool he can’t go into and just throw a tantrum…not to mention the chaos that will ensue since I really want my husband with me and able to concentrate without having to constantly chase after the kiddo….he’s at that age where all the world is a playground for him to destroy and get into trouble with and has figured out how to get over the safety gates, out doors, up stairs, etc so he needs constant supervision…and to think, I spaced the kids 18 months apart ON PURPOSE! =)
18 months old is a hard time… they are getting so independent but can’t understand thing yet.. Even with Colin at just over 2 the baby is a hard concept to grasp…
Simon will be between the boys and I also… we have a new movie for them to watch and they have their playroom downstairs that they can go with Simon. I don’t think that I will mind having a solo labour (with him around if I need him) but I want him to be there for the birth… and I have a feeling that the boys will do well.
You’ll have to let me know how that age gap between number 2 and 3 works out. I want to have my first 3 kids before I turn 30 (I know, I’m young) which would put the spacing between number 2 and 3 for me at about 2 years and 3 months. I’ve heard that the tough transition is going from one to two kids and that going from two to three is easy, but I guess you’ll know soon. =)
I don’t think I’ll mind a solo labor either, other than if I get hungry or want more hot water, or the fan on me, Ken (the husband) is pretty good at getting those things for me now. I think I’ll have a harder time going from one to two kids than my son will because I’m so used to being spoiled.
I have heard the same thing that going from 2-3 is easier…
There will be the same age difference between 2 & 3 as there was between 1 & 2… both times I got pregnant 18 months pp…. so the age difference is around 25-26 months… I’ll see how things go this time…. though I have to admit that I do see it being a bit easier because Simon will be off for 6 months so I will have a lot of help…
Oh… and I have the exact same reasons for needing Simon around in labour 😉
Neat, so you have one every 18 months then? =) We got pregnant with this baby when Gage was 9 months…I wanted them 18 months or older apart but it just so happens we were successful on the first try, so 18 months it is. If my plans go the way I want then Gage will be just shy of 4 years old and this baby will be 2 and 3 months or so when the third baby is born. I don’t know why but I am really determined to have that third baby before I turn 30, and that happens in early 2010. And wow! 6 months off! I wish my husband was off for that long. I’m only getting a week with him after the baby is born, maybe two if I’m lucky and he’ll be going in from time to time even then! I told him I’m having a 2 week babymoon and NO ONE will stop me. After that hopefully my mom will come out for a week, then his parents for a week or two if I can stand it, last time was so hard with his mom here, she really rearranges your whole world. I’m rambling, sorry!
I’m already looking forward to laboring in my La Bassine with the fan blowing on me and being fed peanut butter sandwiches and mashed potatoes (fave labor foods). =)
