I made a mistake and visited the AP board on Babycenter again…. mistake… bit mistake…
It is truly sad that a board on a mainstream site that used to be such a haven for AP parents and place to get support, information and have questions answered is practically not AP anymore… especially since it is a place that was easy for people that were going to the birthboards etc to find…
I am thinking of downloading a site blocker… you know one of those that are made for kids LOL…
Anyways… I do like reading boards so I going to put a little more effort in the Greener Pastures and the Mothering Boards…. and a lot more effort into never going to BabyCenter again…

I know exactly what you mean. I’m fairly big into the modern counter-culture movement, and many of those boards are the same as you are describing: It’s like a haven for people who just like to be opinionated was created, and the by-product is some real debate. Unfortunately real debate rarely happens anywhere in the world.
I’d like to quote a guy I know, who addressed this very thing as only he can: “You know why the [movement] can’t get anywhere? Because they’re always F******* FIGHTING EACH OTHER!” Well put I think.
There’s a complete lack of humility when people come to most of the online boards that I have ever visited. It took me a short time to realize that things do not change because people are not ready for change — they merely like to “spout off”. I think that we “daring” few take it for granted that we do not fear to go against the grain, or to take those risks.
You’re right to just not visit that board. That’s what I had to do with all of the boards I visited.

P.S. Pardon me if my last few posts have been incoherent. My medical condition has flared up again, so the quality of everything I do is dropping off at the moment.
“I don’t want it seem like I’m attacking you, but thats exactly what I am going to do.” That’s just one of the impressions I walked away with after reading some of the posts on the BabyCenter boards. I’m sorry to hear that a place that was once such a great support is now such crap. Although I feel bad (I can’t think of another word to use there… I must be getting tired) that you’ve lost a source of support, I almost feel worse for the people who go there who aren’t overly secure in their beliefs, the ones who go and read what people have posted and gain the whole “well if they said it’s okay, then it must be okay” mentality. Be strong Maye.. and do whats best for you, even if it means leaving the board behind.
Yeah… I feel bad for the some of the moms there too… I have been able to e-mail a few ad sterr them into the right direction (MDC) so at least there are some that can get some good advice….
