Well… the TV went off last week and the boys took it perfectly well…
I mean so perfectly they haven’t asked for it, they haven’t had the reflex of turning it on, they haven’t said a thing about it… it is like we never had it for them…
and they were completely addicted to that thing before…
It was really surprising…
There are still a few shows that I would like to continue watching so I download them… but there are not many and because I have to chose the shows that I would like to download I choose the ones that I really enjoy and it feels better for me knowing that I am watching something because I choose to watch it and not just because it is on…
I decluttered the playroom more last week and got two garbage bags worth of toys out of there and Simon cleaned it even more over the weekend and got our wooden trains back out and the boys are playing a lot more and that is really a good thing…
The saddest thing I find is how hard it was to actually do it… but I am so happy that we did…
eta: after reading this post… Simon called me to say that he saw Khéna turn on the TV as a reflex in the morning when he got up… of course it opens to a black screen though… he should lose that reflex soon though…
wow, good job!!
We still have our tv but we try to limit our tv time and try not to have the kids watch it at all.
We were just talking to another couple last night who don’t have cable either. We were joking with them about how people with it find the time to watch it. We are so busy and I just don’t know when we’d watch it. But I think probably people without cable often just find other things to do and so it’s easy to not miss it when you’re busy with other stuff. I hope it continues to go well!
Okay, so I’m a few days behind.
When I last got hurt I started developing the reflex for watching tv… so pathetic! For the previous 10 years I’d only had rabbit ears so I didn’t watch much, then my partner and his fancy tv and satellite entered the picture. Eventually we got so we that we were forgetting about it and today is the first day where the tv won’t work. It’s silly though, we watched more than normal this past month because they gave us a month before disconnecting us! Now if I could just get my ‘rents (who gave me access to TSN for the World Junior Hockey Champtionship as a Christmas present 17 years ago) to give up all the extra stations….I mean I haven’t really lived there in 13 years!
Way to go on getting your kids out of the tv habit. This time next year they probably won’t even notice!
