I am on a plateau right now… still hanging around 223-224…
The pool went into Summer hours and it makes it a lot harder to go… I would have to leave the minute Simon gets home to get my hour in… which would mean that supper would have to be done completely before Simon gets here… (I often use the time Simon gets home to go into real action with supper…) and that I would not be able to eat with the family… or eat a hot dinner…
I need to get walking more… or biking or something… I need to get off of this plateau and start losing again…
Walking walking walking. Okay, I’m bias. I love to walk, especially in the evenings with my family.
I think plateau-ing is pretty normal but maybe it’s a sign to kick up your activity a notch. You’d only want to do this subtly so you don’t get some sort of burn out. Variety is also key, if you ask me. I hope that despite the heat, you’re still eating well and often.
Can’t wait to see you… 3ish weeks…
I’ve been at a plateau for about 6 months now. And with the hills I’m cycling up in Quebec I can tell I am actually exchanging fat for muscle as I have to use the next hole on my belt.
I my case (big surprise coming up), biking is what really made a difference for me. I think for me this is due for the most part to the fact that I can make it a part of nearly every day’s routine without impacting my normal schedule. Where before I might take the bus to the library or the store, I now strap on the panniers and ride there. Takes about the same amount of time. Last summer I commuted 40 km round trip to/from work 3 days a week. A couple times I actually wore a heart monitor and apparently in those couple hours I had burned 2400 calories. And those were 2 hours I was going to spend riding a bus to work anyway so I didn’t have to take time away from my family to do it. In 3 months I’d dropped 30 lbs.
Of course with 3 children there’s more of a challenge. You might be able to put one in a bike seat and 2 in a trailer but that’s likely more of a workout than you are up for for sure. But perhaps you could work it out that you could go out on your own in the evening or weekend to do some errands.
I guess the big point I’m trying to make is that whatever you do, if you can find a way to include as much purpose to it beyond the exercise itself and can find a way also to include as many families as possible, it will be easier to stick to and more enjoyable besides.
Yeah… I am not too sure that I am ready to pull three kids yet… lol… I haven’t even been on a bike much in the last few years…especially being where I am that there is not much that is accessible by bike…
but I did think about it a few times reading your posts and also listening to Annie rave about her new xtracycle…
