Swimming is doing great… I am getting stronger and I am building endurance. I can go longer without stopping to take a break and breathe..
I have been journaling what I eat and I have been staying within my “limits” which isn’t that hard to do actually because there are not many habits that need changing though I have been keeping my eye out a bit more on portion sizes…
I do feel like I have more energy… which feels great…
but….
I step on the scale and there is no change.. My measurements don’t really seem like they are changing either… I do think I need a new scale though because every time I step on it I get a different number but the lowest number is not really going down…
It is hard because though I think I know that the changes I am making are great for me, I would have liked to start seeing results…
It is just hard to not get discouraged…
I’m not surprised and I wouldn’t be discouraged, either, as IMO this is totally normal. You gave it away in the first paragraph when you said you were getting stronger. If you’re developing muscle and burning fat at the same time your weight might well remain about the same even as you start to notice outward changes. The reason is that muscle is far more dense than fat. No need to be discouraged, what you’re doing is good for you and I think it is going exactly as it should. Don’t let this stop you.
My greatest weight loss came from going totally vegan (I’m not so good anymore), giving up coffee which cuts my appetite (again not so good anymore), and cycling like crazy. I highly recommend spinning classes if you have the chance, also.
Thanks 🙂
I am feeling stronger and feel like I have more energy… I am also really enjoying that time at the pool…
I have heard about spinning but I am a bit scared of that… and really I just don’t have the funds… but I think I would like to start walking or even jogging… I think I need shoes because I don’t think it would work well being barefoot… lol
Spinning is good, but yes, at least in TO it is quite pricey. Best fitness for me turns out to be active transportation. Living (and at the moment working), as I do, in a relatively urban area, I walk everywhere that’s less than a KM or so away. Anything farther and I take the bike.
I think the ultimate problem with most people in the western world right now is that there just isn’t that much activity in our daily lives. And now with suburban neighbourhoods without sidewalks and far from stores we’re in even worse shape. Human bodies weren’t designed for this lifestyle. We can artificially help things out at the gym but in many cases we’d probably do just as well if we could just find ways to move around a bit more in our daily lives.
And that is exactly the kind of world I live in at the the moment…
No sidewalks and far from stores… we have to take the car to do almost everything…
I have been trying to make it a daily habit to go for a walk in the neighborhood but it is so boring.. When the sno is gone though and the mud is drier then I will start going to park that has a few KM of trails that we like to go walk in… (and you have to walk fast because it is Mosquito haven…lol)
Paul and I had a similar problem last night riding along a ravine. Go slow and the mosquitoes get you. Go fast and you end up eating the clouds of gnats that cluster along the paths. Eew!
